Final Blog Post!

So the year is coming to a end and we are finishing up our blogs. I have worked a lot harder this year than last year and I saw huge improvements. My participation in this class has been outstanding through out the whole year. I was in class almost everyday other than the time I was sick and was injured. In total I believe I only missed 1 class due to being sick but I could not do some of the activity because of a back injury but I contributed by taking picture of my peers to make their blog better. Injured or not I still told my peers what they need to work on and helped them do the best they could do in this class. Every class I showed up in gym strip and was on time. During activities in class for some activities I played at the level that made the game enjoyable for everyone and myself. I really enjoyed the games we played this year and gave them all a shot even if I didn't like it at first. If I still didn't like it I still contributed so it wont make the game boring for my classmates. When we have a group activity I'm not the one to yell at someone for their mistakes I usually just take leadership and organize/help with what we are suppose to do. A big thing I have learned this year was that when you respect someone they will most likely respect you back. This also taught me that when someone else is talking I have to be quiet and listen then say my ideas at the appropriate time. Participation within this class is great because people like myself want to make everyone feel included.

This class is great because they give and take advice that is very helpful. Since we only have 4 teachers in the gym and a bunch of students it is hard to know if we are doing a exercise properly. For example at first I wasn't really too great at galloping but now I fixed it with the help of Carlo in the beginning of the year. In some fitness exercises I see a lot of familiar activities because of basketball so I know how to do a certain activity correctly. If so I like to give strong criticism to help someone else to the exercise properly. There was many times when I helped different grade 8's with wall sits, squats, plank, and push ups. Many people who haven't seen any of those exercises are not familiar with the proper posture and how to do it. I am usually the first one to volunteer to help set up equipment especially during choice days. I don't really like playing badminton on choice but I always volunteer to help set up the nets if someone doesn't know how to do it properly. Everyone always likes to leave right away because they do not want to help clean up and put away the equipment so I feel bad for everyone who has to clean up and I put away the equipment with or without others. During games no one likes cheaters and it won't benefit you so I don't like it when people don't play by the rules or lie about what they did. This is why I don't cheat myself because it is not like I will win a trophy or medal. I noticed that when you are honest first people will be honest as well. For example if we play basketball  and the ball goes out on me and I know it did too I will honestly give the other team the ball and expect they will do the same thing. Our class is usually good with social responsibility which gets me to also be responsible too.

This year I have worked the most on this aspect, healthy living. My goal at the start of the year was to be able to touch the rim of a basketball hoop and I have already achieved my goal. I would not be able to reach my goal if I stayed home and ate junk food. This year I worked really hard outside of school and my basketball practices. I gather friends and we help ourselves become better athletes in all aspects. We ran on the weekends, woke up at 5 in the morning to go to the YMCA during winter and spring break and we shared different youtube and articles to each other regarding health issues and new drills. This got my fitness testing score a tremendous difference from the last one. I went from running a 13 on the beep test to a 14. I think that fitness at school shouldn't be the only exercise we get over the week. This year I have also been eating proper food and cut all the fast food/pop. This help me build up my stamina, have more energy, and help loose weight. The biggest question I had was if weigh protein is good for me. I had this question because a lot of people I know are drinking protein at our age and saying its good for you. I did my research and found out that weigh protein is NOT good for me at my age. I found out that it gives a higher chance of getting kidney stone and will affect my health extremely if I were to drink it everyday. I want to build a strong body so I will live longer in my old age and will still be strong in the future. This is important to me because I don't want to have a shorter life due to a sickness because I ate Mcdonals everyday.

My blog is not as bad in my opinion but I can sure blog with more pictures and videos. I should have a lot more blogs but I think all the blogs I have posted really reflected me and the kind of person I am. Looking back into my blog it really shows my improvement through the year. I posted about all the requirements needed like the dance week post and buddies post. This was my first year blogging through the whole year and it really changed gym for me. Blogs also got me to know my other classmates better and the type of people they are. I love it when people comment on my blog so I comment on theirs as well. In all my blogs I put in time and effort but I feel I could have put more evidence. My blog showed the use of improvement through the year and looking back was much different than now.

In this class I think I deserve an A due to all of my hard work on all these aspects through the year. I will take from what I learned this year to my next class and in real life situations.

Final fitness

We did our final fitness so these were my results
14:beep test
60:vertical test
5:in 30 sec on balance board
2min: plank
Sit and reach is still 0
The rest I wasnt able to finish but im glad I got to these ones cause i wanted to check these ones the most but I still need to work alot on flexibility cause thats the only one that didn't improve.
My past beep test were
So I say I made a fairly large improvment through the year.
My vertical before was 56 during Winter. Balance board was 6 but i think i just got lucky cause i didn't work too much on balance. Plank was 1min 26 sec so i think i made a huge improvement from last time i timed it. I am still working and will improve my score next year.

Basketball outside of school

Outside of school I don't just sit at home all day. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I have basketball practice and tournaments/games on the weekend. My club team is called Rise Up Ball and the team just opened this year and it has a large amount of sulli players on the u15 team. This was the results of our very first tournament and playing together.

I think we did fairly good since it was our first time together. Sadly I was injured this tournament so I couldn't play to my full potential. There are still many games to come and I am still improving as a individual in basketball.

Summer Plan

With the year ending I'm already thinking of the workouts I'm going to do for summer. My goal for the end of summer is to be quicker and more explosive for basketball. I'm going to test my speed by the end of the year by seeing how long it takes me to do a 100m sprint at bear creek from the start of summer and see my time at the end. I want a 7 sec difference from the start of the year to the end. I am going to watch a bunch of youtube videos and read a lot of articles to achieve my new goal. Equipment I am planning to use/buy are a mini parachute, leg weights, weighted vest, skipping rope, and a agility ladder. I'm going to use the equipment in different ways and all of them have great use for. I will use some equipment at the local gym everyday of the summer. My dieting goal for summer is no slurpees, pop, mcdonals/fast food, and high sugar candy. I will also try to become a better shooter and more muscular. This summer I am planning to work hard every single day with 2 other friends and Carlo. I'm looking forward to summer to become a better athlete and help my health.

Parent Mid-Term (mom)

Looking over Adam's blog it really reflects him with his athletics and fitness. He does a good job at home playing basketball outside and running around the neighborhood. He pushes himself to do well in school and athletics. We joined Adam in different basketball programs outside of school. I think blogging is a great idea for kids to reflect about what they do and compare it after. All teachers should have their kids blogging. I am very proud of Adams accomplishments and wish that he told me about blogs from the beginning of the year. Adam motivates me to exercise myself when he goes to the YMCA. After summer I would want him to look back at this and find a new goal. Keep up the great work.

Progress

My goal for the end of the year was to touch the rim of a basketball hoop. I have achevied my goal awhile back but forgot to blog about it. My routine was doing some jump training and then doing leg workouts after. I looked out different work out and plyometric drills to see what I can make a routine out of.
This is my workout routine to do at the ymca at 7 in the morning almost every weekend.
1.Use the foam roller every 2 days
2.skip rope
3.squats
4.lunges
5.different fourms of jumping and balance
6.calf raises
7.balgarian squat

This video is for number 5.

On ocassion I changed it up to do different plyometric workouts and picked the ones that worked the most for me and made my legs super soar the next day. Repeating this got my vertical up to reach my goal.

Quick run

Today I ran the same route i did almost everyday during spring break. I clearly remember writing it but for some reason it got deleted so i will re-upload the the route. My friends and I wake up early in the morning to go for a quick run along 152 st. to Fleetwood Park. It took us roughly 15 min to get there and 35 min to come back. It started with us eating a proper breakfast. I usually ate nuttella, eggs, fruits, and sometimes I made my own smoothie. I noticed that my friend couldnt run as much then I asked him " What did you eat for breakfast?" He tolf me he ate nothing so I told him he has to eat a proper breakfast to run properly. The next day he did the run with no problem. This really showed me how important it is to eat properly. I'm going to remain to run over summer break to build up my stamina and speed for next years basketball season and for my own health.
